Summer Skincare Routine for A flawless face

During hot months, I am a big fan of clean, simple and fresh makeup. Sometimes I even prefer no makeup at all because I have oily skin and makeup slides right off my face when it’s really humid out. In any case, even minimal makeup applications start with good skin. I feel like a lot of people forget that summer can be downright cruel to the skin if you don’t look after it. Sorry loves, the heat and the sun really aren’t your best friends…  so start looking after your skin.

Note: I have used each of the products mentioned below for at least one year.

I start off the day by cleansing my face. You might laugh, but I use baby soap to wash my face because it is super gentle. I use little exfoliating gloves to really get the gunk out of my pores.IMG_1194

On days when I am feeling a little fancy, or when my skin needs a little bit more loving, I will take out my Dermalogica combo. I mix equal parts of the cleanser and the daily microfoliant, let it sit on my skin until it dries then wash it off. Let me assure you, these two Dermalogica products may be a little pricey but they have worked wonders on my skin. There is a reason I’ve been using them for 3 years: they both brighten and exfoliate the skin.dermalogica daily microfoliant

After my face is cleansed, I like to dry it with a paper towel. The reason I use paper towels is because I can use a new one every time. I don’t like the idea of using the same face towel time after time. It just seems dirty to me. Yes, I am quite picky when it comes to my face, but that is my preference. If you don’t mind then just use a clean face towel.

CHANEL LE LIFT CRÈME FINE

Next I apply my serum. Serums can really transform your skin. They are formulated to be light which allows them to penetrate even more deeply than moisturizers. Serums also enhance any treatment that is applied to the skin after it. I use Circadia’s vitamin C serum. This serum is a must have for all skin types. It contains a high and stable concentration of vitamin C and since it is combined with other active ingredients like hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5, this serum has helped brighten up my skin and restore firmness to my skin.

After the serum, I follow up with my moisturizer. I used to moisturize with jojoba or coconut oil, but since I have oily skin the oils would not fully penetrate my skin. I know many claim that people with oily skin can use oils without problem, but in my experience that just wasn’t the case. Now I moisturize with Le Lift crème fine. This moisturizer is the bomb. It is lightweight and I can really see a change in my skin texture. My skin is tighter and more even tone. Oh another plus, it smells so luxurious thanks to the beautiful extract from the Edulis flower that everytime you put it on, you will feel like a Queen.

Now this next step is very important: Sunscreen. I use Control Corrective spf 30 sunscreen daily. Skin damage from sunlight is serious people. I know people of colour (especially) tend to think differently, but the damage you might not notice now you will in a few years. Skin damage from sunlight builds up with continued exposure, regardless of whether or not sunburn occurs. Personally, I use sunscreen on a daily basis even if I am inside the house. Why? Because UVA rays can penetrate window glass exposing you to sun rays. I use this sunscreen daily. It melts right into the skin and does not leave that white cast that makes a lot of us (woman of colour) run from sunscreen. Plus it’s oil-free and smells so good.

Oh, and If I am going to be wearing clothes that are exposing some of my body parts, I will also apply my 110 Spf spray-on sunscreen to protect me from the sun all day long.

After my sunscreen is applied, I’m good to go. Sometimes I will apply minimal summer friendly  makeup and spray my face with my facial mist for a little pick-me-up throughout the day.

Why use a Facial Mist? Well, pores look more obvious in hot, humid weather. To deal with this I always make sure to spray some Circadia hydrating facial mist on top of my makeup (or on my bare skin) throughout the day. Facial mists have natural minerals that calm the skin and this specific one has active ingredients that help fight hyper pigmentation; talk about killing two birds with one stone. Circadia products are available at The Spa Junkie in Ottawa. But if you do not live in Ottawa then please go to Circadia’s website to find a spa where you can buy their products based on your geographic location.

Oh and please do not forget about your lips. Crusty lips are not cute! Moisturize with Vaseline this summer!!

Furthermore, I try to get chemical peels, which chemically exfoliate my face, on a monthly basis. I will be getting one soon before I travel and might share the procedures with you on my SnapChat. So, make sure to follow me. My SnapChat name is hawitalove.

I hope this post was helpful. If you have any questions feel free to ask me below. Also, let me know if you would like to see how I do my makeup in hot humid weather.

      1. Thanks, Hawa! I am loving all of these skincare tips! WOW!

Je me suis dit, yea this girl knows what she talking about.

Oh Marie, tu as fais ma journée avec ton commentaire! Bisous
Ps: By the way the way l’eau de rose est parfaite comme mist hydratante.
